At St. Joseph's, we recognise that exploring Other World Faiths is crucial to building our understanding, tolerance and respect for others. This is part of our British Values, but also important to our own faith, that we love all of God’s people.
Dialogue: What the Church teaches about the relationship between Catholicism and other Christian traditions, Judaism, Islam, other world views and non-religious word views.
Encounter: A discrete study of other faiths, religions and world views. The order that pupils learn about other world religions is based on the model provided by Pope St Paul VI in his encyclical Ecclesiam Suam.
The concentric circles show that we begin by deepening an understanding of Christianity, then encountering Abrahamic faiths, Dharmic faiths then other religious and non-religious worldviews. Our goal is to present each belief system from the perspective of its followers in order to nurture respect for others. In doing so we prepare pupils to engage respectfully and peacefully in a multi-cultural world.
