This curriculum is structured into six branches, each exploring a core theme to deepen pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith.
Branch 1: Creation and Covenant
Scripture: “The heavens are telling the glory of God” (Ps 19:1)
Pupils encounter God as Creator and the One who calls a people.
They explore:
Christian belief that all creation is from God
Biblical creation accounts (Genesis) and scientific explanations
God’s covenantal relationship with His people (Abraham, Moses, and the Old Testament narratives)
Branch 2: Prophecy and Promise
Scripture: “In many and various ways, God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets” (Heb 1:1)
Pupils learn how prophets called people back to God.
Key topics:
The role of prophets and their message
Fulfilment of God’s promise in Jesus (Messiah)
Advent as a season of waiting for the Messiah
The nativity and the mystery of the incarnation
Branch 3: Galilee to Jerusalem
Scripture: “God’s only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (Jn 1:18)
Pupils experience the ministry of Jesus, the Word of God.
They learn about:
The life of Jesus: parables, miracles, encounters, and teachings
The disciples’ calling and the nature of Christian discipleship
Branch 4: Desert to Garden
Scripture: “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures... and that he was raised on the third day” (1 Cor 15:3)
Pupils study:
The season of Lent and Holy Week
The Paschal Triduum and its centrality in Catholic worship and life
The journey reflects:
Lent to Resurrection
Paschal journey: from darkness to light, barrenness to fruitfulness, death to life
Branch 5: To the Ends of the Earth
Scripture: “Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations...” (Mt 28:19)
Focus on:
Events after the Resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit
The early Church and the work of the apostles
Catholic Church today as the apostolic Church, linking past and present through liturgy and structure
Branch 6: Dialogue and Encounter
Scripture: “In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)
Pupils explore:
Christian cooperation with people of other beliefs and goodwill
Respect for the dignity of all humanity
Intercultural and interfaith dialogue based on Church teachings
The Religious Education curriculum enables pupils not only to know about their faith but also to live it meaningfully in a diverse world. Through this programme, pupils are encouraged to see, judge, and act through deeper understanding and personal engagement with the Christian message.
