RAINBOWS BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GREAT BRITAIN is a well respected national charity having a proven, positive impact on the lives of children, young people and adults grieving a significant and often devastating loss in their lives.
Their vision is quite simply for every child and young person in every school in Great Britain, grieving a significant and often devastating loss in their lives, to be understood and supported appropriately.
The work of Rainbows is tried, tested, researched, monitored and evaluated. We know the impact of our work is long-lasting and has a tangible impact on people’s lives.
The roots of Rainbows Bereavement Support GB date back to Chicago in 1983. Suzy Yehl Marta, a divorced mother with three young children, founded the Rainbows programme following her own divorce to address the apparent absence of any organised support groups for grieving children. Her intention was to ensure that other families would not suffer as her family did through the trauma of her own divorce.
Fully adapted programmes and training covering all aspects of bereavement and loss were developed in Great Britain and introduced in 1992. As a result of the impact of their training and their revised and up dated programmes, over 100,000 children and young people now have access to support in over 1400 schools.
Rainbows Bereavement Support GB offers high quality training in bereavement and loss, and supports communities in reviewing or developing their own bereavement policy and procedures. Through locally based Registered Directors, the charity offers training in the use of Rainbows age related peer support programmes which help foster emotional healing among children, young people and adults.
On-going support is provided to affirm and advise the trained facilitators and co-ordinators that run the programmes.
High quality training for all members of staff and further training for facilitators and co-ordinators to suit the specific needs of your school are delivered at your site.
Here at St Joseph's, we deliver the Rainbows programme for our families.
If you require more information about the programme, please speak to your class teacher or our school office who will direct you towards MIss Bailey and Mrs Saura (our trained facilitators and co-ordinators of the programme).
