About Us

St Joseph's Catholic Primary school is a Voluntary Aided school that was founded in 1885.

We currently have 75 pupils on roll and are situated in the beautiful rural location of Withnell, overlooking the West Pennine moors.

The school is very unique in that it is situated directly under the church building.  The original part of the school was built in 1885 with extensions to the school in the 1960s and again in 1998. The latest modifications have included the creation of a library, a nurture room and a new classroom for Year 6.

The school's rural location means it has a wide catchment area which includes Withnell, Brinscall, Abbey Village and Higher Wheelton.
